In the real world, yes, but in MMOs, there's no visually convincing way to add a hat on top of hair, if you treat the two parts separately. The hat either hovers above, or replaces the hair; it doesn't combine with it. If you want a hat with hair, the artists would have to create a separate design of that specific hat and that specific hair style. When you start trying to combine every hat (and helmet, and half-helmet, and mask, and wrap-around goggles, etc.) with every hair style, the number of combinations quickly becomes overwhelming. It would take literally years for a team of artists to create just the hair composites.

Personally, I'm thinking about teaching myself Maya so I can have whatever accessory and combination I want. It's one of the biggest advantages of a volunteer effort. :D

You are exactly right. And you're also right that it didn't stop anyone.

At this stage. I'm not sure that the character creator will be available to download separately from the actual game.

Right. The hero engine combines all parts of the game into one piece. In order to make a separate character creator, a second engine would need to be bought, and the create part put in that one without it allowing access to an empty game section. Then again there are many costume pieces still being worked on, and not yet ready for game status.

And during the creation of the game itself, the character can change in design which in turn also changes the character creation section. The creation section is one of the first things the player will see in game, however it probably should be one of last things made for the game. As long as the game is still being designed.

Sorry for the extended AWOL.

In any case I was wondering if the character creator does support making younger characters? Both in terms of being able to make them short and making them appear youthful; since Kid heroes are such an established part of the superhero genre.

The HeroEngine supports the ability to make characters of various ages, which we'll be making use of in the game.

For Skills/Traits; I was wondering if "Child" could be one of them.

I'd imagine that it would give something of a penalty to inf gathering (kids would have a hard time getting a lot of pull with their reputation) but a bonus to experience (since kids tend to be quicker learners than adults); probably small on both ends though.

If you're particularly ambitious you could have traits like that change some bits of dialogue since generally speaking most people will talk differently to a child than they would to an adult.

If you really want to go super granular I suppose you could have four age related traits; child, teenager, adult, and old. With perhaps a fifth for all those ageless immortals who've been around since the Dinosaurs walked the earth.

Could we have moveable symbols? Some patterns from CoH and CO don't look right with the symbol in the center of the chest, but would look better if you could move the symbols to work with the pattern.

That's definitely doable - the only major issue would be how they would look when applied to costume pieces that weren't as flat as spandex or tight-fitting leather.
