Even if you leave aside the more extreme comic book speech styles like “HULK SMASH!”, there are still a lot of ways that players might want even relatively simple comments to be phrased to suit the character concepts that they might have in mind, which could range from things like terse and reserved, through earnest and open to sarcastic and wisecracking.
The problem is that even with quite a small selection of these speech styles, the response list that a player would have to choose from would need at least 10 or more options for just about every single conversation, and while options are always good, this would make the dialogue system rather unwieldy, which h goes against the design simplicity we’re aiming for in the game as a whole.
