A Brief Recap

Unread postby Golden Girl » Mon Dec 09, 2013 5:53 pm

As we're just over a week into the detailed lore and story development, I thought it'd be a good idea to post a brief recap of what we've been putting together so far:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1 - The Multiverse is vast and complex, but can be broken down into 3 basic parts - the countless universes/dimensions that function in a similar way to our own, the weird twisted and fragmented reality of the gigantic Antiverse that surrounds the "bubbles" of the normal universes, and Null-space, the infinite emptiness beyond the Antiverse.

2 - Dimensional displacement is one of the laws of physics governing the transfer of matter between universes, making dimensional travel difficult and dangerous.

3 - There is more than one type of magic, although the various forms are frequently all just lumped together under a single category as a catch-all term for anything arcane and mysterious.

4 - Super-science is present in the world, but much of it remains experimental, and it infrequently finds it's way into the lives of normal people. This rarity makes it a very valuable target for theft and exploitation by various individuals and groups.

5 - Superheroes are liked by the vast majority of normal people, but a small element distrusts and fears them for two main reasons - their presence provokes supervillains into increasingly deadly acts, making the world more dangerous than it was before the reappearance of supers, and that the historical balance of power within society has been broken, as now it would only take a handful of powerful supers to take over an entire country.

6 - Titan City is a huge metropolis on the East Coast, with the highest concentration of superpowered people in the world, which has made it a target for anyone or anything with plans for global domination, whether they're from Earth, or from other planets or dimensions.

7 - A pair of ancient alien races, the mechanically minded Alikoro and the more spiritually focused Jiracho fought out a massive war in the distant past, long before humans ever appeared on Earth. Although both races have now seemingly vanished, a number of their artifacts can still be found scattered around the world.

8 - There was a first age of powers before recorded history started - the gods and heroes of ancient myths and legends were the superheroes and supervillains of their day. The age came to an end, either gradually or suddenly, or a combination of both, leaving the world with far fewer supers as "real" history began.

9 - Two early civilizations had a far greater level of development that others - the
Atlanteans, whose descent from the Titan Atlas combined with their blend of magic and technology made them an exception to the decline in superpowers elsewhere in the world, and the Lemurians, whose envy and fear of the Atlanteans turned them to the worship of dark gods - mysterious entities from the Antiverse.

10 - Atlantis and Lemuria fought an inevitable war, which resulted in the cataclysmic destruction of both islands. While the Lemurians were left as just a remnant scattered across the remains of their empire, the Atlantean techno-mages managed to preserve far more of their civilization, and rebuilt it on the ocean floor.
Both groups went into isolation for thousands of years - the Lemurians because they were so badly weakened and feared reprisals from the other humans they'd subjugated, and the Atlanteans because they feared that their presence could provoke a similar response in other humans as it had in the Lemurians.

11 - A second age of super powers began in the first half of the 20th century, around the 1920s-30s, which saw a massive upswing the number of supers in the world. the reasons for this are not yet fully understood, and a variety of triggers for it exist.

12 - During World War II, the Lemurians formed a pact with the Nazis in an attempt to regain their ancient empire, and a combination of the Lemurians' dark magic and the Nazis super-soldier program was used to combat the superior number of superpowered fighters on the side of the Allies. The Atlanteans had ended their isolation to help the Allied forces once they discovered that their old enemies were fighting on the said of the Nazis.

13 - After the war, all forms of genetic-engineering for warfare were banned by the United Nations, ending government super-soldier research programs, and forcing scientists and groups who still had an interest in it to go underground.

14 - A number of Nazi supers escaped to South America after the war, and have continued to hatch plans to restore the Reich or bring about a new one ever since.

15 - While aliens of various types had visited Earth in the past, the first official publicly known contact was in 1951, when the Eleriel, a race formed of a luminous liquid crystalline substance, landed in the Heartland Park in the middle of Titan City.
The change in humanity's perspective that this event caused is widely regarded as one of the reason why the Korean War, which was going on at the time, didn't escalate into World War III.

16 - Some of the information about the nature of the Multiverse that the Eleriel brought with them was a key factor in the first official piercing of the dimensional barrier 2 years later in 1953, although the Eleriel had intended their information to be more of a warning about the dangers of the Multiverse rather than an aid in helping humanity begin dimensional exploration.

17 - Several Soviet supers have continued to battle against Western heroes following the end of the Cold War.

18. With the rising popularity of super powered beings, Coast City redesigned itself and it's entertainment industry to appeal to the meta-human lifestyle. The conversion is successful and Starcoast City is named the official sister city of Titan. It has become the super hero entertainment capital of the country.

Conspicuous by its absence is the "landing" at Roswell, New Mexico. What "really" happened and how does it fit into modern events? Food for thought...
